3 Fashion Week Trends From a Minimalist’s Point-of-view

While there are so many key trends being discovered during fashion weeks, from fringes to bright neon colors to mixed patterns, I curated these images of looks that I love from what happened in fashion week so far. Here it is: from a fashion minimalist’s point of view of what’s good.

Head turban or head wrap made it first debut this year in the Tom Ford Spring 2019 Read-To-Wear collection, which made an interesting twist to the overall styling. It added another layer of sophistication and sexiness to the models who walked down the runway in semi-transparent lace corsets, fur coat and cinched-waist dresses. Head turban was seen again on the beautiful Bevza show “Faux Reality” where femininity was interpreted at its finest. Head turban is such a fun accessory to soften up a look without compromising style and power.

The second trend (or I should say, color) from fashion week that I see myself incorporating into my style is light yellow. Think of daffodil, baby ducks, butter type of yellow. This color was seen in so many amazing collections like Acne Studios, Tibi, Theory, Bevza, Proenza Schouler, the list goes on. I am now on the hunt for a light yellow cami slip dress and suit trousers.

Bevza was killing it again with their elegant and minimal design head-to-toe, winning over my heart completely. So was Tibi with the business casual and flip flops mash-up game that elevated the formal look with a touch of playfulness. I know not everyone is on the same boat as me with this thong sandals/flip flop trend and I’ve already seen enough people dissing on it on Instagram stories these days. But, you can’t deny the fact that fashion sometimes challenges people’s conventional way of thinking, for instance, that it is absurd to see someone go out and about in flip flops while wearing a full set suit. My take on this is that you want to keep an open mind and just have some fun with experimenting what you like and don’t like. And I think I am definitely going to take out my Havaianas and pair them with slacks next time I go out.

The Bone

My Tiffany bone, my extra bone, on top of the 206 bones that came with my body, is a special one.

For the Tiffany's Elsa Peretti collection:

Really love this curation of these two images. I wore a green silk dress on the day of visiting the store. So did my grandma, except her dress was a shade darker. I caught her leaning on the couch that happened to be green, too. Everything was so effortlessly in sync.

When it comes to fine jewelry, I always go for the color gold. Sometimes silver, never rose gold. I was originally eyeing on the gold bone cuff but when I tried on this silver one I infinitely loved it more. The color is subtle and subdued and compliments the organic quality.

It fits nicely on my wrist with a groove designed to cover the wrist bone - the one that sticks out. My friend said this cuff reminded her of Wonder Woman’s arm cuff. Not 100% certain about its bullet-proof ability, but I do feel a sense of confidence and empowerment from the weight it gives me and the way it rests on my body. To quote directly from Tiffany & Co., “Peretti’s creation wraps the wrist in strength and grace”. This cuff was a gifted to me from my parents for celebrating my graduation from UC Davis. I am beyond grateful. Nothing could’ve made a more special gift than a unique, timeless piece came in a blue box.

July's mood board is more like my everyday mood board - barely-there slip dress, strap sandals, bikinis under white dress shirts and my forever muse Kate Moss. This is my favorite mood board so far and I am half way there to own most of the items in it.

Everything is so effortlessly french. And of course, in my opinion, no one knows women better than Simon Porte Jacquemus and his SS 2018 collection La Bomba. I was very lucky to get a hold of this La Chemise Bahia blouse before it was sold out everywhere. Despite it being slightly revealing, I found it to be very versatile as a summery cover-up.

Instead of buying the rest of the exact things on the mood board, I went with a more budget-friendly route. I thrifted a slip dress very similar to this Zara one on Depop and bought a set of brown bikini from Amazon. Bingo. All I need now is the Louis Vuitton purse (donation accepted here :P) and some kitten-heel sandals.

My little advice at the end:

Leave your heavy makeup and bras at home before you go out in the hot summer days and feel as sexy as Kate Moss.

Blue shirt dress

Bello,

Long time no see!!

I've been juggling a looooot of school projects the past few months because I am trying to graduate this summer. Anyways, I'm back with a new post.

Dress shirts and shirt dresses are my thing now. Also anything blue.

Two weeks ago, my bff Jessie came here all the way from Beijing to go to Coachella (or Beychella?) with me. What a weekend it was! She also brought me all the new clothes I bought and had sent to her house and this dress was one of them. I am so so in love. The quality, fabric, and fit were all so perfect. I styled them with my beloved Celine sandals. I didn't put on any jewelry because I forgot at the time. Next time I will definitely throw on some gold dainty necklaces.
